Mainly due to the strong increase in available data and services, the complexity of IoT applications increases more and more. Engineering processes for building up smart service systems must consider integration challenges such as data ambiguity and service heterogeneity. Therefore, this project practically introduces current state-of-the-art platforms (e.g. as well as software engineering processes for IoT systems (e.g. to the students.

Project Sponsor

The MTP will be organized by the Institute for Enterprise Systems (InES) in cooperation with the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (Romania). The MTP will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Heiner Stuckenschmidt and Dr. Christian Bartelt.

Project Goal

The subject-matter of the cooperative master team project between students of the Babes-Bolyai University and the University of Mannheim will be the implementation of a software prototype concerned with the integration of IoT data sources and services within the application domains of smart home and smart cities.

Project Roadmap

  • Start of the team project in the first two weeks of October 2019
  • Study trips of the students from both Universities to the respective other University (~1 week each in October/November 2019)
  • (Bi-)Weekly Sync-Meetings with Cluj and working phase
  • End of team project at the end of April 2020

If you want to know more about previuous trips, please consult our latest student report.

Students who would like to participate in the MTP are required to have experience in Java programming or web development and version control systems (e.g., Git). Desirable skills are an open-minded character, outstanding teamwork, and great communication skills.

If you are interested in participating within the MTP send an e-mail to until the 12th of July 2019. On the basis of the applications received, we will organize a meeting at the InES to discuss the project (4-6 students will be selected out of all interested students).
